(Massachusetts).- Massachusetts casinos are one step closer to returning to pre-pandemic conditions. By an unanimous 4-0 vote Wednesday, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission lifted COVID-19 restrictions at the state’s three casinos on May 29 at 12:01 AM.
Three orders issued between June 2020 and March 2021 were rescinded for the Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Plainridge Park Casino. Restrictions for blackjack, craps, and roulette will be lifted May 29, and social distancing guidelines are cancelled. Capacity limits were also eliminated.
At the discretion of each casino amenities, including bars and restaurants, can be re-opened throughout the day.
The vote coincided with Governor Charlie Baker’s May 17 announcement lifting face covering and all industry-related COVID-19 restrictions effective May 29.
The casinos agreed that future restrictions due to possible COVID-19 orders by Governor Charlie Baker or the Centers for Disease Control will be followed. Also, the gaming establishments agreed to keep a safety officer in place and report COVID-19 cases to state and local health officials.
Each casino will follow CDC guidelines and not require masks for vaccinated guests and workers. Guests and workers who are not vaccinated will be asked to wear masks, but each representative — Encore Senior Vice President Jacqui Krum, MGM Vice President and Legal Counsel Seth Stratton, and Plainfield General Manager North Grounsell – said an honor system will be used and no one will be asked to show proof of vaccination.
In April, the MGC reported $85 million in revenue compared to $84 million March.
