(Manila).- The Philippines government announced Friday that the current Alert Level 3 would be retained for Metro Manila for another two weeks, but a further easing of restrictions could arrive sooner rather than later as COVID-19 case numbers continue to fall.
According to figures from the Department of Health, there were just 3,410 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, representing the Philippines’ second lowest daily figure since June.
Despite the continual decline, from a high of 27,887 on 9 September, Malacañang said Friday that it would maintain the current alert level status for Metro Manila from 1 to 14 November, having previously lowered the status from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3 on 16 October.
Under Alert Level 3, casinos, horse racing and cockfighting – which had all been suspended since early August – have been allowed at resume at 30% capacity, with lottery, betting shops and other gaming establishments reopening.
Also allowed to resume at the same 30% capacity were MICE venues, restaurants, internet cafes and amusement arcades, indoor tourist attractions such as shows and exhibits and indoor sports venues. However, theme parks, cinemas and venues with live performances such as karaoke bars are not yet reopen.
The recently introduced alert level system initially saw 14 cities and provinces included under its pilot implementation, however Malacañang said it has now extended that to another 25 regions following its success.
