(Osaka).- Kangwon Land has launched an innovation committee to review operations and assess the feasibility of its US$1.9 billion resort transformation project to examine corporate strategy, HR systems and internal culture.
Organizational Diagnosis and Innovation Committee
Recently appointed Kangwon Land CEO Kim Do-gyun has launched an “Organizational Diagnosis and Innovation Committee,” designed to undertake a comprehensive review and diagnosis of management operations due to accumulated issues that arose during a prolonged period of leadership vacancy,
The committee will also conduct a review of major initiatives including the company’s KRW3 trillion (US$1.9 billion) “K-HIT” resort transformation project, according to information contained in a recent release. Among K-HIT’s immediate priorities is a KRW200 billion (US$136 million) investment into upgrading and expanding Kangwon Land’s hotel and casino facilities.
Longer term the project will look to transform the wider resort area, including expanding its non-gaming facilities by revamping walking trails around the casino complex, building a wellness center and developing a luxury pool villa, among other amenities. The initiative is largely aimed at improving the attractiveness of the resort ahead of the 2030 launch of MGM Osaka in Japan.
According to the company, the “Organizational Diagnosis and Innovation Committee” is composed of both internal and external members who possess a balance of professional expertise and representation from within the company, ensuring both “objectivity and an understanding of on-site realities.”
Alongside reviewing corporate initiatives, it will focus on improving organizational structure and HR systems as well as improving organizational culture and work practices.
“The launch of this committee serves as an opportunity to take an objective look at the organization’s current state and specifically identify areas requiring change and innovation,” Kim said. “By broadly gathering input from diverse members and recommendations from external experts, we will drive tangible changes that both employees and customers can truly experience.”
The announcement of the committee comes with Kangwon Land having attracted over 94,000 visitors during the recent four-day Chuseok Holiday form 24 to 27 September.
Visitor Growth and Future Vision for Kangwon Land
In a separate release, the company said this included approximately 34,000 at the hotel, 33,000 at the casino, 15,000 at the condo, 1,000 at the golf course, and 9,700 at other facilities, including Water World.
This follows a 4.4% increase in casino visitors in 2025 to 2,478,658, based on data from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
“[Kangwon Land] is continuously striving to become a resort that customers want to revisit by offering new attractions for every season,” said Kim. “We aim to establish ourselves as a global resort representing South Korea by consistently enhancing our diverse content based on our pristine natural environment, while simultaneously serving as a tourism hub that grows alongside the local community.”
