Local and federal health officials have stressed the importance of wearing face coverings in public areas to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cloth face coverings can help prevent infection by reducing the spread of respiratory droplets through the air and onto other people.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board, which regulates the state’s casinos, began requiring face coverings at table games without barriers this past week.

Gov. Steve Sisolak said Friday he would ask his medical advisers "to evaluate potential options for enhanced face covering policies" in the state.

Nevada has seen an uptick in new daily coronavirus cases this month, which coincides with the reopening of casinos.

Health officials said last week that the uptick is partly due to the increasing testing capacity, and any speculation related to casinos reopening or recent protests would have to be confirmed with contact tracing.
