(Las Vegas).- MGM Resorts International and Marriott International have announced plans to bring the W Hotels brand to the Las Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas Strip: MGM Resorts, Marriott to open W Las Vegas

The two companies plan to convert the non-gaming property currently known as The Delano Hotel to W Las Vegas, according to a Monday news release. Located on the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel campus, the release states that the conversion is expected to take place later this year.

Additional plans for the property, including possible renovations, will be announced in the future, the companies said.

Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts and Marriott partnered for a long-term licensing agreement in 2023. Earlier this year, the companies introduced the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy, allowing rewards members of both brands to benefit from the other’s incentives and perks.

“Our relationship with Marriott had far exceeded our expectations, demonstrating the power of its brand portfolio and the strength of their distribution channels,” said Steve Zanella, president of MGM Resorts Operations. “W Las Vegas, the latest hotel to come to life as part of our collaboration, will allow our guests to access a new luxury lifestyle experience recognized worldwide for its distinct personality, dynamic programming and elevated service culture.”

The MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy previously included 11 Las Vegas hotels, of which The Delano was not one. The W Las Vegas will be part of the program.

“This agreement is a pivotal moment in our collaboration, which continues to expand hospitality and entertainment offerings for guests. As a luxury brand rooted in bold design and nightlife, W Hotels is well-positioned to elevate experiences for travelers in this destination,” said Leeny Oberg, chief financial officer and executive vice president of development for Marriott International.

The Delano resulted from a 2012 licensing arrangement between MGM Resorts and Morgans Hotel Group, owner of the South Beach hotel with the same name.

The property opened in 2003 as the THEhotel at Mandalay Bay.

The 41-story tower includes 1,117 rooms, all of which are considered suites. The property also has two restaurants, a spa, a beach club, and the top-floor Skyfall lounge.
