Macau government sees gaming tax revenue fall 63.6% year-on-year in January

The January figure, published by the Financial Services Bureau this week, represents just 6.2% of the government’s 2021budget for revenue from gaming, reflecting subdued GGR from operators due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in mainland China at the start of the year.

Macau’s casinos recorded gross gaming revenue of MOP$8.02 billion (US$1.0 billion) in January, down 63.7% compared with January 2020.

The Financial Services Bureau revealed total revenues taken in through January came to MOP$4.34 billion (US$543 million), meaning revenues from concessionaires – including a small amount of revenue from public utility services – comprised 74.3% of all government revenues in January.
