(United States).- New Hampshire is accepting applications for potential online and brick-and-mortar sports betting operators.

New Hampshire Lottery Accepting Applications For Sports Betting Licenses

Republican Governor Chris Sununu signed a bill last month that legalized sports betting in the state. If all goes to plan, residents of the state could be betting on sports by the 2020 NFL Super Bowl.

The law allocated 10 licenses for retail operators and another five licenses for online providers. The New Hampshire Lottery will accept proposals until 4 p.m. on Sept. 16.

The lottery expects to announce the recipients of those licenses by November, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The law will allow gamblers to bet on all professional and college sports, unless the event includes a New Hampshire school or the event is taking place within the state. It also created a subdivision within the lottery commission to regulate the market. Gamblers must be at least 18 years old to place a bet.

“The New Hampshire Lottery looks forward to working with vendors to develop a secure sports betting system that engages our players and drives revenue in support of education in New Hampshire,” said lottery executive director Charlie McIntyre in a statement.

Voters will get the final say as to where the 10 retail locations are in the state. After the lottery picks its locations, the commission will provide information on sports betting to cities for their November ballots.

According to early estimates, legal sports betting in New Hampshire will generate $7.5 million in tax revenue in the 2021 fiscal year that will help fund the state’s education programs. That number is expected to rise to $13.5 million when the market is fully matured two years later.

Once launched, New Hampshire will join Rhode Island as the only two states in New England with legal sports betting.
