SCJ suspends for another 180 days the licensing process to operate casinos
⏱ 2 min read
(Chile).- With date November 24, 2020, the Chile Casino Superintendence (SCJ) decided to suspend, for a period of 180 days, the process to grant or renovate casino licenses started last July 27th. It is added to the 90 days of suspension established last August 26th, so the new date of the audience for the presentation of the technical and economic offers will be on Monday, October 18, 2021, at 10:00 am at the Hotel Gran Palace in Santiago.
To make the decision to suspend the aforementioned process again, the authority took into consideration the following grounds:
The existence of the State of Constitutional Exception of Catastrophe due to public calamity, which is still in force to date due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
The "Protocol for the Management and Prevention of COVID-19 in Casinos and Gaming and Entertainment Establishments", within the framework of the "Step by Step, We Take Care" plan, generated by the Ministries of Health and the Economy, which defines different opening steps available to gambling casinos.
Circular N ° 40 of the Superintendency, of November 12, 2020, which allows the voluntary opening of casinos that are located in the communes that are in steps 3 and 4 and obligatorily in step 5, which it implies in all cases a reduced operation, in accordance with the aforementioned protocol, available at https://www.economia.gob.cl/2020/03/27/protocolos-sanitarios-para-funcionamiento-de-empresas.htm.
The unfavorable sanitary conditions that were in view to suspend the process last August, have not ceased, also exhibiting high instability, producing advances and setbacks between the different phases in accordance with the design of the Step by Step Plan.
This 180-day postponement seeks to ensure adequate and informed preparation by applicants and renewers to the current process of granting their respective technical and economic offers, as well as greater competition in the referred process, conditions that improve the prospects for tax revenues, regional and communal, for which it is deemed appropriate to extend the suspension of the process of granting operating permits to ensure its effectiveness.
