(Adelaide).- SkyCity Entertainment Group has begun exploring the sale of its Adelaide casino as part of a broader effort to strengthen its balance sheet. Forsyth Barr estimates the property could be worth between NZ$150 million and NZ$200 million, depending on the outcome of the sale process.
Adelaide Casino Enters the Market
New Zealand-listed gaming and entertainment company SkyCity Entertainment Group is putting its Adelaide casino business up for sale, according to BusinessDesk.
The move comes as the company reviews its portfolio and seeks to improve its financial position. The Adelaide property is one of SkyCity's two major Australian casino operations, alongside its casino in Darwin.
The company has engaged advisers to assess potential interest from buyers as it considers strategic options for the asset.
Forsyth Barr Estimates Value at Up to NZ$200 Million
Investment firm Forsyth Barr has estimated that SkyCity's Adelaide operation could command a valuation of between NZ$150 million and NZ$200 million.
The final price will depend on market interest, the terms offered by potential buyers and the future earnings outlook for the casino.
The valuation comes as SkyCity continues to focus on reducing debt and strengthening its balance sheet following a challenging period for the group.
Casino Business Faces Regulatory Challenges
SkyCity's Australian operations have faced increased regulatory scrutiny in recent years, while the wider casino industry has been subject to tighter requirements around responsible gambling, anti-money-laundering controls and customer protection.
These developments have increased operating costs and added pressure to casino operators across Australia and New Zealand.
For SkyCity, the potential Adelaide sale would provide an opportunity to unlock capital from an asset outside its core New Zealand operations.
Potential Buyers Assess Adelaide Asset
The sale process could attract interest from casino operators and other investors looking to expand their presence in Australia's regulated gaming market.
Adelaide Casino operates as part of the broader Adelaide casino and entertainment precinct and includes gaming, accommodation, restaurants and other hospitality facilities.
SkyCity has not indicated that a transaction has been agreed, meaning the company could still decide to retain the asset if offers do not meet its expectations.
SkyCity Reviews Its Portfolio
The potential sale forms part of SkyCity's broader strategy to simplify its business and strengthen its financial position.
The company will now assess proposals from prospective buyers while continuing to operate the Adelaide property.
The transaction, if completed, would mark a significant change in SkyCity's Australian portfolio and could provide additional financial flexibility for the group.
