(Biloxi, Mississippi).- South Mississippi’s casino industry closed 2025 with more than $1.5 billion in gaming activity, reaffirming the Gulf Coast as one of the most resilient and diversified regional gaming markets in the United States, according to data from the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

South Mississippi Casinos Surpass $1.5 Billion in Gaming Activity in 2025

Casinos along the Mississippi Gulf Coast continued to show strong performance throughout 2025, supported by major national operators, expanded resort offerings and a steady influx of visitors from neighboring states. Industry executives point to brand strength and customer loyalty as key drivers behind the sustained growth.

Barry Regula, President of Hollywood Casino and Boomtown Casino, emphasized that the presence of large gaming groups with established rewards programs has been instrumental in keeping the destination competitive. Operators such as MGM, Caesars and Boyd Gaming bring extensive customer databases that consistently feed traffic into the region.

Resort Expansion and Amenities Drive Demand

Beyond gaming floors, South Mississippi casinos are investing heavily in non-gaming attractions to broaden their appeal. Boomtown Casino recently reinstated its buffet and bakery, both of which had previously closed, reinforcing the property’s reputation as a dining-focused destination for local patrons.

Meanwhile, Hollywood Casino in Bay St. Louis is advancing its transformation into a full-scale resort. The property now features an RV park, golf course, marina, cigar lounge, cocktail lounge and spa. A major hotel renovation is also underway, with six floors already completed and the full project expected to wrap up in 2026. According to Regula, these developments are aimed at attracting a wider regional audience and extending visitor stays.

Mobile Sports Betting Back on the Agenda

On the regulatory front, mobile sports betting has returned to the spotlight in Mississippi. Lawmakers are once again debating legalization after previous initiatives cleared the House of Representatives but failed to advance in the Senate. Industry leaders argue that mobile wagering would complement existing casino sportsbooks rather than replace them.

Regula noted that Hollywood Casino experienced a decline in in-person sports betting after neighboring Louisiana approved mobile wagering. He believes that a regulated mobile framework in Mississippi could help recapture customers who currently place bets across state lines.

Transportation Links Bring New Audiences

Adding to the momentum, the launch of Amtrak’s Mardi Gras line in August 2025 introduced a new rail connection to Bay St. Louis. The service has opened the door to new visitors while also offering a convenient travel option for day trips to and from New Orleans.

To capitalize on the rail link, Hollywood Casino provides complimentary Uber rides to Amtrak passengers lacking local transportation, streamlining access from the station to the resort.

Together, infrastructure improvements, expanded amenities and potential regulatory changes are positioning South Mississippi to sustain its gaming growth into 2026 and beyond, reinforcing its status as a key regional gaming hub.
