State of the Gaming Industry at G2E 2020
⏱ 2 min read
(Las Vegas).- Yesterday with the occasion of the opening of G2E Virtual Experience, Bill Miller, President and CEO of American Gaming Association, made an analysis of what this year 2020 has been like for the casino and gambling industry in the United States.
"Today’s virtual start to Global Gaming Expo (G2E) 2020 is a reminder of how different a year it has been for the gaming industry. From our complete closure in March, to the more than 90% of casinos that have now reopened today, gaming’s story in 2020 is one of leadership and innovation in the face of adversity.
Properties are steadily seeing gaming revenue return closer to pre-pandemic levels. In fact, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Dakota have all recorded consecutive months of year-over-year commercial gaming revenue growth. Meanwhile, MGM, Wynn, and Las Vegas Sands are working to safely bring back live entertainment and trade shows to Las Vegas with the use of large-scale rapid testing, PPE, and other safety protocols.
Our return has demonstrated the role we play across the country as job creators, community pillars, and vital tax contributors. Moreover, our innovations in responsibly reopening have set a standard for all industries on how to get back to business while prioritizing the health and safety of customers and employees.
These successes are part of the reason that, according to the AGA’s new survey, Americans view the gaming industry more favorably than ever. American adults overwhelming believe gaming is an acceptable form of entertainment, creates good jobs, benefits the national economy, and behaves responsibly.
I reflect on much of this during my annual State of the Industry speech. I encourage you to tune in as I highlight the many ways in which the gaming industry has come together during the pandemic to help each other—and our communities—back on our feet."
