(Las Vegas).- The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has announced a pledge of $250,000 to expand its Diversity and Inclusion Program and support local nonprofit organizations.
The funds will be allocated in the coming months across new CoStar (employee) diversity-training resources, monetary donations to nonprofit organizations, and a sizeable commitment to the Hannah Brown Community Development Corporation Scholarship Fund.
The Hannah Brown CDC, combined with local partners like The Cosmopolitan provides access to scholarships, advocacy programs and leadership resources to underserved minority youth and young adults in Las Vegas. The Cosmopolitan’s donation to the Hannah Brown CDC Scholarship Fund will help further the organization’s mission to empower local youth by improving economic and educational opportunities for students in need.
Currently, the resort continues to work alongside Diversity Best Practices, an organization for executive-diversity thought leaders, and in partnership with Western Regional Minority Supplier Development Council to seek out minority-owned vendor partners and develop innovative solutions for continual culture change within the community.
This charitable pledge comes on the heels of the resort-casino donating $250,000 worth of pallets of food to local charities and foodbanks during the shutdown earlier this year, as well as the ongoing pledge to match up to $10,000 of all Giving Module donations each quarter. Through The Cosmopolitan’s Giving Module, guests and visitors are encouraged to donate their spare change when redeeming slot vouchers at kiosks on the casino floor. Since launching in July 2019, The Cosmopolitan and its guests have donated more than $82,000 from more than 230,000 donations to local charitable partners.
Moving into the fourth quarter of 2020, The Cosmopolitan has selected organizations that support diversity, inclusivity and first responders to its beneficiary partners list. The new charitable beneficiaries include: 100 Black Men and The Boys and Girls Club, to support both organizations’ ever-present influence and work with minority youth in local schools; Bunker Labs, providing assistance to veterans in starting and growing their own businesses. The organization opened their Las Vegas Chapter this month and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation, a local first responders’ organization that works in tandem with LVMPD to ensure our community’s safety. The four new charities will be included in The Cosmopolitan’s Giving Module starting Thursday, Oct. 1.
“As a resort, we pledge our commitment to the social-injustice issues that continue to plague our nation. While we are proud of our ongoing charitable efforts, it is our goal that The Cosmopolitan’s quarter of a million dollars in aid and donation efforts will provide the resources needed to further assist our CoStars and our community, bettering the lives of many in need through education, awareness, support and direct monetary giving efforts,” said Daniel Espino, Chief People Officer at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, recently named one of America’s Best Employers by Forbes Magazine, is on track to compete with its past yearly monetary donations, $1.6 million in 2018 and $1.7 million in 2019, through a culmination of efforts to support causes focused on the military and veteran community, diversity and inclusion, physical and intellectual health, learning and student enrichment, and food and hunger relief. In line with these efforts, The Cosmopolitan scored 100 percent on Human Rights Campaign “Best Places to Work” for its eighth consecutive year in 2020.
