Africa Takes Center Stage in Global Gambling Governance at SiGMA World 2026

Africa Leads the Conversation on Global Gambling Governance

The gaming industry is witnessing a pivotal shift as Africa solidifies its role on the international stage. Rather than merely participating in global discussions, African regulatory bodies are actively providing key insights, structural models, and innovative solutions for the future of gambling regulation. With substantial institutional leadership and extensive experience, the continent is positioned to become a central voice in international gaming governance.

Panel Tackles the Gap Between Legislation and Enforcement

During SiGMA World 2026, a high-level panel discussion titled "Africa's Legal Mirage: Are Regulatory Frameworks Delivering Results?" brought together key regulatory authorities from across the continent to address one of the industry's most critical hurdles: bridging the gap between existing legislation and practical enforcement.

The panel featured prominent industry leaders, including:

Mr. Siyabonga Mngoma – Executive: Transformation and Economic Development, KwaZulu Natal Economic Regulatory Authority (South Africa)

Ms. 'Mantiti Khabo – Chairperson, Lesotho Casino Board (Lesotho)

Ms. Chhayan Divya Ringadoo – Gambling Regulatory Authority (Mauritius)

Mr. John Erastus – CEO, Gambling Board of Namibia (Namibia)

Mr. Macário Aguacheiro Gonçalves Gusse – Deputy General Director, Inspecção Geral de Jogos (Mozambique)

Mr. Bashir Are – CEO, Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority (Nigeria)

Strategic Partnerships Drive International Collaboration

For the African Lotteries & Gaming Association (ALGA), these discussions reinforce the conviction that Africa must help lead the global regulatory future. Leveraging the continent's diverse institutional expertise allows for a more coordinated, modern, and effective framework.

To facilitate this international dialogue, ALGA partnered with Global Lab to establish a dedicated Regulators' Lounge at SiGMA World. The initiative, championed by Global Lab Founder and CEO Maurizio Soccodato, provided a strategic platform for African regulators to connect with delegates, exchange perspectives, and strengthen international industry relationships.
