(Barcelona).- A €20,000 donation awarded to FEJAR at ICE Barcelona 2026 has provided far more than just financial support. The contribution has helped launch a landmark international responsible gambling initiative that promises to generate lasting benefits for player protection across the Ibero-American region.

FEJAR Champions Sustainable Practices at ICE Barcelona Conference

Launching the Inaugural Ibero-American Conference

The generous funding—made possible by contributions from 11 leading industry brands including Acordjoc, Betsson Group, BGaming, Cirsa, Flutter, Grupo Orenes, Merkur, Merkur Dosniha, Novomatic, Novomatic Spain, and Zitro—enabled FEJAR to successfully stage the inaugural Ibero-American Conference on Responsible Gambling.

This milestone event brought together top gambling regulators from Spain, Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and Portugal. The conference served as a vital platform for these regulators to exchange knowledge, compare regional strategies, share common challenges, and identify best practices. According to FEJAR President Gerardo Rodríguez, the event has established the organization as a central forum for responsible gambling expertise across the Ibero-American community, proving the immense value of international cooperation in addressing gambling-related harm.

A Commitment to Knowledge and Shared Responsibility

Reflecting on the broader significance of the donation, Gerardo Rodríguez emphasized that its true value goes well beyond the monetary funds. "The fact that the Sustainable Gambling Zone decided to support our work sends a positive signal about the importance of investing in knowledge, prevention and dialogue," he stated.

Rodríguez views initiatives like the Sustainable Gambling Zone and the ICE Research Institute as strong indicators of the industry's growing willingness to promote critical research, generate evidence, and encourage open discussion on the sector's future.

"Investment in knowledge is essential if we are to better understand risks, evaluate existing measures and identify new approaches to prevention and protection," he added. He concluded by noting that any effort supporting independent research and stakeholder collaboration should be welcomed, as it reflects a growing awareness that the sustainability of the gambling sector must be built upon shared responsibility and a firm commitment to those experiencing gambling-related problems.
