Organizer analyzed the recent CGS edition

“CGS had planned two aspects: the conference and the exhibition. The conferences complied its goals and expectations, because we planned to receive 50, 60 people, considering the changes that took place in the market, and the new government, which has not commented its opinion on the matter. However, we received the people we expected, everyone who registered assisted to the conferences, there were top-level speakers with impressive content. All suggestions of themes were accepted, and I think the goals and expectations were complied. It have us much satisfaction as we have received congratulations due to the work done,” Leiva commented.

“With regard to the exhibition, I have to acknowledge it had a poor performance. The entrance was free, and it complicated things because it means you do not have the commitment. If you do not pay, you do not assist. We don’t open to the public because we understand that the time of the exhibitor is so limited that it is better if he only speaks to those who take decisions. A lot of people suscribed to the show and did not come. There were also problems with the licenses to import machines, licenses did not arrive, they could not take their machines, which is not my duty. AIEJA had to cancel their event, and we were informed at the last minute. However, we have managed to get people do networking and talk to everyone, and we aimed booths to communicate each other, too. Several people were quite satisfied, and it is already important for us. If a 70% of a 100% universe is happy, we are satisfied,” she added.

Leiva then anticipated the projects of the company for the current year and how political situation of the countries affect the gaming sector. “We will keep on working on the projects we have; there have been changes in Dominican Republic government, which make us stand by and see which will be our future actions,” she said, and added: “We have planned to start in Cancun, continue in Dominican Republic and conclude the year in Puerto Rico. Engineer Chalas left his position in Dominican Republic, so we now have to meet the new person in charge, and get to know his political line, to see if he is pro or against gaming. There are import problems and licenses are also suspended. Online gaming has been approved recently, but the authorities have changed. I have a license in process, which starts in January, but we will see if they respect it or not. We’ll see what happens.”

“With regard to Puerto Rico, the regulator has come to Cancun and I have a meeting to define its market needs and when will they regulate online gaming, among other things,” she added.

She also informed that another remarkable issue on the conferences was Blockchain: “Blockchain is a global theme; it is a reality, but it is so new that no one has an idea about the procedure or what is it about. Former Malta regulator and Blockchain expert explained at the conferences that this is a consequence of the 2008 financial global disaster. Now there are trillions of dollars negotiated since crypto currencies started.”

When consulted about the future of online gaming in Mexico, Leiva remarket that, according to what they spoke at the conferences, there are considering to change the regulation.  “A new entity, independent from SEGOB, is being considered, so gaming can be regulated according to the present situation. The law in force is from 1947. We have been told that the political decision is to regulate the sector for everyone’s benefit. I think online gaming is to be regulated because they have seen that it is the future. They have already seen that crypto-currencies are actually working; they have sportsbooks without a strict regulation. They have more than 130 million people so they can take advantage of this industry.”

FInally, she said that she still hasn’t met the new Games and Draws Director. “We have sent letters to Mr Cutino, but the government is so new that they still don’t have a clear polity on the matter, so he said he could not open or support any private or public event yet.”
