(Espelkamp).- Gauselmann AG, founded in 1980 as a holding company to provide central services to the various companies of the Gauselmann Group, will carry the name "Merkur.com AG" from January 1, 2024. The announcement was made by Paul Gauselmann, founder of the Gauselmann Group in 1957 and CEO of Gauselmann AG, in the framework of the sales event "The Industry Summit" in Frankfurt.
“The name change to Merkur.com AG underlines our strategic orientation, especially towards further digitization. It is a visible sign of our core competence and our corporate objective to offer the best games and services for the national and international gaming markets”, explained Paul Gauselmann.
The Merkur brand has been of great importance since the 1970s and set new standards in the industry no later than 1976 with the introduction of the first gaming machine developed by Paul Gauselmann, the "Merkur B", and the state approval of Physikalisch- Technische. Bundesanstalt (PTB). Since then, many other games, devices and gaming systems have been developed, produced and distributed under the Merkur name, and services have been offered. The firm establishment in the market was accompanied by a constant strengthening of the Merkur brand and its iconic logo, the smiling Merkur sun. Today, this is not only the most popular luck and gambling symbol in Germany, but it has also become well known internationally in recent decades. Paul Gauselmann highlighted: “The name change is both an acknowledgment of our product and the symbol directly associated with it, the Mercury Sun. Because this undoubtedly best embodies the joy of the game.”
Already in March 2022, one of the largest subsidiaries, adp Gauselmann GmbH, was renamed adp Merkur GmbH. With the name change from Gauselmann AG to Merkur.com AG, the group of companies continues its brand harmonization process. In future, Merkur.com AG will be the common umbrella for all production and sales channels, nationally and internationally. "This change is also an important step for our international expansion," explained Paul Gauselmann. “We currently generate around 60 percent of our sales abroad and this proportion is constantly growing. Under the internationally established name Merkur, we can further expand our presence in the global gaming industry."
Paul Gauselmann added with a smile: The name change does not change anything in the ownership structure of Merkur.com AG. The company remains owned by the Gauselmann Family Foundation, to which the shares of Paul Gauselmann and his family were transferred on January 1, 2016. Since then, as the sole shareholder, he has been responsible for all major decisions and strategic. This means that the Gauselmann name will remain inextricably linked to the group in the future. The Gauselmann Family Foundation is run by a three-person board of directors, which is still chaired by Paul Gauselmann. The foundation's advisory board consists mainly of members of the Gauselmann family, which also demonstrates the close connection to the region.
