(Macau).- The Macau government released a report on the evaluation made on the first three years of implementation of Macau SAR Five-Year Development Plan – between 2016 and 2018 – stating in it that the ‘healthy development of the gaming industry has been maintained’ during this period and with some development expectations surpassed.

According to the report, the annual casino game table growth rate remained at 2.8 per cent between 2013 and 2018, under the 3 per cent rate planned in government plans.

It was also indicated that the percentage of the population without a higher education degree employed in the gaming industry had been reduced from 77.8 per cent in 2016 to 75.9 per cent in 2018, with a 76 rate in 2020 the set goal for authorities.

Macau authorities also considered some results to have surpassed their expectations, noting that the percentage non-gaming represented in gaming operators’ revenue had dropped from 10.7 per cent in 2016 to 9.9 per cent in 2018, already higher than the 9 per cent or higher rate estimated for 2020.

The local government had also set a goal that by 2020 some 85 per cent of gaming companies mid-level or higher management positions would be held by Macau residents, with an 88.1 per cent rate already reached by 2018.
Meanwhile, the percentage of local products and services purchased by gaming concessionaires on their overall purchase amount went from 58 per cent in 2016 to 65 per cent in 2018, surpassing authorities expectations of reaching a 50 per cent rate in 2020.

Concerning the percentage of the number of local suppliers in the global number of the sector’s supplier companies, numbers have slowly increased from 46.8 per cent in 2016 to 49.6 per cent in 2018, with authorities aiming for a 50 per cent rate in 2020.

According to the report, the number of local companies contracted by the concessionaires amounted to some 493 companies in 2016 and 660 in 2018.
Authorities also underlined the 2016/2018 period saw the amendment of regulation concerning the access into gaming areas, which were enforced on December 28, 2018, and the conclusion of a consultation with professionals in the sector on the amendment of the casino gambling promotion activity regulations and of the requirements for the supply of gaming machines, equipment and systems.

The entry ban covers gaming table workers, those who operate betting machines, cashiers, public relations workers, food and beverage workers, cleaners, as well as those who work in the field of security and surveillance, barring them from entering and exiting casinos.
