Macau VIP gross gaming revenues drop 22.4pct y-on-y in Q3

(Macau).- VIP gross gaming revenues – represented by VIP baccarat – dropped 22.4 per cent year-on-year to about MOP31 billion (US$3.8 billion) in the third quarter of this year, while revenue generated by casino mass market table and machine games went up 17.6 per cent to MOP39.7 billion, data released by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) revealed.
Accumulated VIP baccarat revenues dropped 17 per cent year-on-year in the first nine months of this year to some MOP102.9 billion, while mass-market casino gaming went up by some 18 per cent to MOP117.9 billion.Just considering mass baccarat, results went up 20.5 per cent year-on-year to MOP30.5 billion between July and September of this year.
Mass baccarat represented 43.1 per cent of Macau’s total gaming revenues for the period – up from 34.3 per cent in the same period last year – while VIP baccarat represented 43.8 per cent of gaming results – down from the 54.1 per cent seen in the third quarter of 2018.
In total, gaming operators saw their revenues drop 4.2 per cent year-on-year MOP71 billion – including gaming outside casinos – in the third quarter, while falling 3.5 per cent quarter-to-quarter.
Meanwhile, the amount generated in football and basketball betting – under Macau Lottery Co., Ltd. (Macau Slot) – dropped by 20 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of this year to some MOP178 million, with the 2018 Football World Cup having boosted last year’s sports betting results.
Betting on horse racing explored by the Macau Jockey Club increased by 47.3 per cent year-on-year to some MOP28 million.
