(Madrid).- Google will expand access to YouTube’s prominent masthead advertising placement to certified online gambling operators from October 21, 2026. The change extends eligibility beyond sports betting, allowing other operators that meet Google’s certification, licensing and regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction to advertise in one of the platform’s most visible placements.

YouTube to Open Masthead Ads to Certified Gambling Operators

Google Expands Advertising Access for Online Gambling Operators

The new policy will allow online gambling operators with active Google certification to promote their services through video ads in YouTube’s masthead placement. This premium advertising space is available on desktop computers, mobile devices and TV screens.

Until now, eligibility for this placement had been more limited, with prior authorization available for sports betting advertisers. The expansion represents a new visibility opportunity for companies in the gambling industry that operate within the applicable regulatory frameworks.

To qualify, operators must comply with Google’s Gambling and Games policy, hold the licenses required in each market, and adhere to age restrictions and local legislation.

Google also explicitly excludes affiliate websites and advertisers that are not subject to mandatory state or national gambling registration requirements.

Stricter Certification and Compliance Controls

The expansion of YouTube advertising eligibility follows Google’s September 14, 2026, policy update, which introduced stricter certification requirements for gambling advertisers.

Ongoing Monitoring of Advertising Accounts

The update introduced global compliance checks, referred to as “policy health” controls, across different gambling-related advertising categories.

Under this framework, advertisers must maintain active compliance controls to retain their certification and access to advertising tools. Manager accounts with repeated violations may lose their eligibility for certification.

Google warned that accounts failing routine checks may be blocked immediately or lose their certification. As a result, operators will need to ensure they meet all applicable requirements before launching their campaigns.

The company summarized its position on this development in a compliance bulletin: “We’re really excited about the opportunity as the market moves toward regulation.”

Geographic Restrictions and Campaign Requirements

Although the new policy expands promotional opportunities for certified operators, access to YouTube’s masthead placement will not be automatic or uniform across all markets.

Google has not disclosed the exact list of countries where the change will apply. Campaigns will remain subject to jurisdiction-specific restrictions, prior approval requirements and the regulatory conditions in force in each territory.

Operators will therefore need to obtain the necessary approvals before launching their ads and verify that their advertising activities comply with local regulations.

Google Tightens Its Policies on Gambling and Prediction Markets

The decision also forms part of a broader series of measures introduced by Google to strengthen oversight of gambling-related services and real-money transactions.

In August 2026, the company restricted uncertified extensions available through the Chrome Web Store, removing tools that facilitate real-money prediction market trading on platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket.

Taken together, these changes reflect an approach to advertising and technology access that increasingly depends on certification and regulatory compliance. For online gambling operators, the expansion of YouTube’s masthead advertising offers new opportunities for exposure, while also requiring them to maintain valid authorizations and continuously meet the standards established by Google and local regulators.
