(Douglas).- Peru has established itself as one of the most promising betting markets in Latin America, thanks to a combination of high internet and smartphone usage, a clear regulatory framework, and strong integration between physical and digital betting.

Growth and Regulation

Internet and mobile : With more than 75% of Peruvians connected and widespread use of mobile payments, the country is primed for digital betting.

Regulation : Law No. 31557, in force since February 2024, established clear regulations for online betting and casino games, managed by MINCETUR .

120 licenses have been awarded to 60 operators, strengthening consumer confidence and attracting local and international investment.

Football and betting are closely linked: Betsson sponsors Liga 1, and Stake has partnered with FCB Melgar.

The focus is on mobile platforms , live betting, and integrated experiences (casino + sports betting).

Market consolidation is expected, with only three or four major brands dominating.

Challenges

High competition, rising taxes (up to 13% between ISC and GGR), and macroeconomic risks such as the fiscal deficit (3.6% of GDP in 2024).

New regulatory requirements include KYC, advertising restrictions, and responsible gaming measures.

Perspectives

The Peruvian betting market is estimated to reach $3 billion by 2026 , establishing itself as one of the most attractive in the region.
