(Yerevan).- The State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia has announced stricter measures to block unlicensed online gaming platforms and their advertising. Set to take effect in February 2027, the new regulations aim to protect the legal market and ensure a level playing field for licensed operators.
New Regulations to Target Unlicensed Operators
Armenia will tighten its current mechanisms for blocking websites offering online cash games and lotteries organized by unlicensed companies, the press service of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of the Republic of Armenia reported.
The new regulations will come into force on February 8, 2027, as part of amendments to the Law "On Regulation of Gaming Activities" and related legislation. The SRC noted that the changes are necessary due to the widespread use of gaming services and advertising offered by foreign unlicensed organizations in the Armenian online space, amid the rapid development of digital technologies.
According to the agency, current administrative instruments are not effective enough in these circumstances, as foreign organizations operate outside Armenia's legal framework.
Improving Technical Blocking and Protecting the Legal Market
To combat this issue, the new regulations plan to improve the system of technical blocking of unlicensed websites by restricting access to them through telecommunications operators. They also propose limiting the distribution of advertising for these unregulated platforms.
The State Revenue Committee emphasized that the new regulations do not restrict legal gaming activities. According to the agency, they are aimed at increasing the efficiency of the licensing system, protecting the licensed gaming market, and ensuring a level playing field by preventing existing risks in the industry.
