(San Pablo).- In an interview granted to a football podcast last Friday, Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil President, said he should veto the bill, debated on the National Congress, to allow games of chance and casinos in the country.
"The way it is being treated, I will veto it," the president said.
However, he finds it difficult to maintain his position. “By vetoing, the ball goes back to parliament. If parliament overrides the veto, it's law. The Parliament already knows of my position that I am going to veto this game proposal that is being processed there”.
The proposal was approved this year by the Chamber, headed by the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL).
“In Brazil, if you let go of the game, you are going to have a problem. On the subject of slot machines: you can't go to the bakery to buy bread and the guy comes back empty handed because he played a slot machine," he continued. "There is the issue of betting and games of chance: and I think that Brazil is not mature enough to discuss this issue."
Bolsonaro, however, said that he is in favor of regular online betting, because in his opinion “the guy keeps playing and the money goes away”, since these companies are not located in Brazil. He said that a text for a decree on the subject is already being prepared.
