Denmark Opens Applications for New Land-Based Casino Licences

Applications Open Until November 3

The Danish Gambling Authority has opened the application period for companies seeking licences to establish and operate land-based casinos in Denmark under the country's Gambling Act.

Interested applicants can download the official application form and the list of required documentation from the Authority's website. Any applications received after 3 November 2026 will not be considered.

Applications can be submitted digitally through encrypted channels or by post.

Consultation Process with Public Authorities

Once received, all applications will undergo a consultation process involving several Danish public authorities, including the relevant municipality, the local Chief of Police, the Ministry of Taxation, the Ministry of Business and, where applicable, the Danish Maritime Authority.

The regulator said this review is part of the licensing procedure before any decision is made on granting a casino licence.

Licences Valid for Up to 10 Years

Under Denmark's Gambling Act, the Danish Gambling Authority may issue licences for the establishment and operation of land-based casinos for periods of up to 10 years.

The country currently has seven licensed land-based casinos, located in Copenhagen S, Copenhagen V, Helsingør, Odense, Vejle, Aarhus and Aalborg.

Key Evaluation Criteria

The regulator said licences will be awarded only to applicants capable of operating casinos in a professionally and financially responsible manner.

Among the main factors that will be assessed are:

Professional experience and operational expertise in gambling or casino management.

Financial stability and sufficient liquidity to support casino operations.

Compliance with requirements for individuals, the operating company, executive management and board members.

The proposed casino's location, customer base and market potential.

A detailed project plan, including the casino's size, facilities and operational model.

Public order and location-related considerations.
