(Congo).- The Ministry of Finance announces the establishment of a centralized platform to regulate gambling in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Statements by Didier Bobwa
Didier Bobwa, head of the information system and monitoring of gaming operations, made this statement during an event held on Saturday, May 30, in Kinshasa: “We are in the process of establishing a comprehensive monitoring platform that will allow us to control the activities of gaming operators.”
He specified that technical resources are being deployed within the Unit to better oversee the gambling sector across the country. According to him, strict regulation establishes necessary measures to prevent social problems linked to gambling, such as:
-Debt
-Addiction
-Money laundering
-Participation of minors
“Some people can lose all their savings, others may use gambling to launder illicit money. There is also the risk that minors could be drawn into these practices,” emphasized Didier Bobwa.
Government aims to modernize the gambling sector
Through this reform, the Government aims to modernize this rapidly expanding sector while strengthening oversight.
Dieudonné Ntumba, coordinator of the Gambling Monitoring Unit, called for close collaboration between the State and operators to ensure fair competition and combat financial crime.
A draft law is currently under review to provide the sector with a modern legal framework. This initiative comes as the DRC remains on the FATF grey list, with the ambition of reinforcing transparency and the country’s credibility.
Operators such as PixLab RDC welcome this move, which promises a more structured environment. A permanent dialogue has been announced to build a credible, regulated gambling sector aligned with international standards.
