Florida Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Gambling: 525 Machines Seized and $190,000 Confiscated

Attorney General James Uthmeier revealed the outcome of a two-day undercover operation targeting illegal gambling networks in Volusia, Brevard, Duval, and Flagler counties. Conducted in coordination with state and local authorities, the crackdown resulted in the seizure of 525 illegal gaming machines and $190,000 in unlawful profits from 39 locations.

Uthmeier stated that illegal gambling operations often serve as financial backbones for broader criminal enterprises. He warned that such establishments are frequently linked to organized crime, prostitution, and other illicit activities, and confirmed that Florida will launch a broader statewide offensive against illegal gambling in 2026.

The operation was carried out in partnership with the Florida Gaming Control Commission, the State Attorney’s Office, and several local law enforcement agencies. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey emphasized that strong interagency collaboration is essential to reducing crime and enhancing public safety.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly noted that unregulated machines are typically programmed to ensure the house always wins, disproportionately impacting vulnerable residents, including seniors living on limited incomes.

Jacksonville Sheriff T. K. Waters said the successful operation sends a clear message that organized criminal activity has no place in Florida. Meanwhile, Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood linked illegal gambling establishments to money laundering, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, urging the state legislature to strengthen penalties.

Julie Brown, Chair of the Florida Gaming Control Commission, thanked Governor Ron DeSantis and law enforcement partners for their support, highlighting that coordinated action is key to protecting residents from predatory operators.

Authorities confiscated machines from restaurants, bars, gas stations, sham arcades, and standalone illegal casinos—some unmarked and others disguised as nail salons or beauty supply stores. Seized equipment included stand-up slot machines, PC-based slot machines, electronic table games, coin pusher machines, and fish table games.

The operation advances Attorney General Uthmeier’s 2026 priority of implementing a comprehensive statewide crackdown on illegal gambling. He has also urged the Florida Legislature to enact reforms that would elevate the offense of operating an illegal gambling house to a felony.
