(Florida).- Sports betting in the state of Florida looks like it’ll have to wait until at least 2023. The D.C. Circuit announced the briefing schedule for the tribal compact sports betting case Tuesday afternoon, listing opening briefs in mid-August and additional replies and oral arguments late in the fall.

Florida Sports Betting Delayed Until At Least 2023

Due to the lengthy itinerary tying up so much time, things won’t get sorted out until the new calendar year, at minimum.

It’s been a tumultuous last year and change in the betting space for the Sunshine State — and that’s putting it lightly.

Hard Rock’s launch in Florida back in November 2021 lasted a mere 34 days. It was the only shop offering legal, online betting and didn’t require in-person signups. It then got shut down by the U.S. District on account of violating the Indian Gaming Ruling Act (IGRA).

A campaign in early 2022 also fell through as an alternate route to get betting up and running. Household sportsbooks FanDuel and DraftKings helped to pony up a combined $37 million, to no avail, as the ballot had insufficient signatures.

The earliest time Florida could try a ballot initiative is 2024.

Although sports betting in Florida is in flux, the state is still offering daily fantasy sports (DFS) as well PrizePicks, a player prop over/under-based app.
