(Macau).- The country collected MOP51.19 billion (US$6.34 billion) in gaming tax revenue during the first half of 2026, driven by higher casino activity and representing more than half of the government's annual target.
June tax collection gains momentum
The Macau government collected approximately MOP8.67 billion (US$1.07 billion) in gaming tax revenue in June, according to the latest figures released by the Financial Services Bureau.
The total increased 13.3% from MOP7.65 billion recorded in May, reflecting continued strength in the city's gaming sector.
Gaming remains the main source of public revenue
For the first six months of 2026, Macau's gaming tax revenue reached MOP51.19 billion (US$6.34 billion), up 13.1% year-on-year.
Under Macau's 10-year gaming concession framework, which came into effect on January 1, 2023, casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) is subject to an effective tax rate of 40%.
Gaming taxes accounted for approximately 87.6% of the government's MOP58.42 billion in current revenue recorded through June 30, underlining the sector's central role in the territory's public finances.
More than half of annual target achieved
The Macau government expects to collect nearly MOP92.53 billion in gaming tax revenue in 2026. The first-half total already represents 55.3% of that annual target.
Officials noted that gaming tax collections and monthly casino GGR are not directly comparable, as there is typically a delay between when operators record gaming revenue and when the corresponding tax payments are received by the government.
Macau also reported a fiscal surplus of MOP13.28 billion for the first half of 2026, an increase of 14.7% compared with the same period last year.
