(Madrid).– Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030 has rolled out a joint deposit limits system for all online gambling operators and launched the Player Portal, a free platform that allows users to check spending, winnings, and losses, as well as manage self-control measures.

Spain Establishes Global Limits for Online Gambling Deposits

A Single Limit Across All Operators

The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030, through the Directorate-General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), has introduced two new tools designed to prevent risky behavior and strengthen the protection of online gambling users.

The main novelty is the implementation of a joint deposit limits system that establishes a global cap per person, regardless of the number of operators where they hold an account.

Until now, economic limits were applied individually on each platform. This allowed individuals playing across multiple operators to exceed initially planned amounts through deposits distributed among different companies.

Under the new model, the default general limits will be set at 700 euros daily, 1,750 euros weekly, and 3,300 euros every four weeks.

Changes Subject to Conditions

Users will be able to voluntarily modify or remove these limits to suit their preferences and control needs. However, changes will be subject to measures aimed at reducing impulsive decisions.

Modifications must go through a three-business-day waiting period before becoming effective. Furthermore, increases to limits can only be requested once every three months and will be accompanied by information regarding the risks associated with gambling.

The DGOJ will be responsible for administering the system via a technological tool that will coordinate the necessary information and verify compliance with the limits in real time. The mechanism also seeks to reduce unnecessary information exchanges between operators and enhance personal data protection.

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the measure will particularly benefit those who maintain accounts on multiple platforms—a group that accounts for approximately one-third of active users in the Spanish online gambling market.

The system is currently in its testing phase, with its final entry into force scheduled for March 26, 2027.

The Player Portal Centralizes Information

The second tool is the Player Portal, a digital platform that allows users to consult online gambling activity registered with authorized operators in Spain from a single location.

Previously, data was scattered across the various companies where each user had an account. The new portal gathers this information to facilitate the tracking of gaming habits and improve self-control capabilities.

Among its main features are:

  • Consulting deposits, entries, winnings, and losses.
  • Reviewing activity history and aggregated statistics.
  • Verifying which gaming accounts are associated with one's identity to detect potential identity theft cases.
  • Configuring personalized alerts regarding spending and gaming activity.
  • Managing and checking joint deposit limits, as well as the status of modification requests.
  • Generating and downloading full-year electronic activity certificates.

Free Access for All Citizens

The Player Portal is now available free of charge to all citizens, whether they hold gaming accounts or not. Access is granted through the Cl@ve electronic identification system.

With these two initiatives, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs aims to unify access to information, strengthen prevention tools, and promote a safer, more transparent online gambling environment.

The launch of the global limits and the portal represents a significant step forward in Spain's player protection strategy, combining regulatory oversight, technological innovation, and self-control mechanisms.
