UK Gambling Industry Generates £17.5 Billion in GGY During 2025–2026

Gambling Market Records Growth in Annual GGY

The Gambling Commission released its Industry Statistics annual report for April 2025 to March 2026, providing an overview of the gambling market in Great Britain.

According to the report, the customer-facing gambling industry generates £17.5 billion in total Gross Gambling Yield (GGY), representing a 4.4% increase compared with the previous financial year.

Excluding all reported lotteries, total GGY reached £13.2 billion, marking a 4.7% year-on-year increase.

Remote Gambling Sector Reports Stronger Growth

The Remote Casino, Betting and Bingo (RCBB) sector recorded a total GGY of £8.3 billion, reflecting a 6.9% increase compared with the previous financial year.

Meanwhile, land-based gambling sectors, including arcades, betting, bingo and casinos, generated £4.9 billion in GGY, representing a 1.1% increase.

The figures highlight different growth patterns across the remote and land-based gambling sectors.

Licensed Gambling Premises Continue to Decline

Despite the overall increase in GGY, the number of licensed gambling premises in Great Britain decreased during the reporting period.

The Commission reported a total of 8,081 licensed gambling premises, a 2.0% reduction compared with the previous financial year.

The number of betting shops also declined by 3.6%, reaching 5,617 locations across Great Britain.

Commission Publishes Quarterly and Survey Data

Alongside the annual report, the Gambling Commission released its quarterly industry statistics for Quarter 4, covering January to March 2026.

The regulator also published the latest data from the Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB), covering the first wave of research conducted between January and May 2026.

These publications provide additional perspectives on industry performance and gambling participation.

Gambling Data Requires Multiple Perspectives

Ben Haden, Director of Research and Policy at the Gambling Commission, highlighted the complexity of interpreting industry trends.

“The market shifts that we see in industry data trends, and this year is no different, are complex and will be down to a mix of factors that need more than one source to unpick.”

He added:

“I welcome our capacity to publish industry data alongside the Gambling Survey for Great Britain to encourage and assist in the consideration of key questions from these different perspectives.”

The Gambling Commission's latest publications combine industry performance data with survey findings to support a broader understanding of gambling trends in Great Britain.
