WWE to legalize betting on match results
⏱ 1 min read
(Michigan).- WWE (World Wrestling Enterteinment) looks that the gambling state regulators to legalize wagering on the scripted matches.
Despite being unusual, the company reported a similar situation of where the results are known but not scripted per se: the Academy Awards (Oscars), assuring there is no difference with them, and that they can keep the results of bouts secret before the matches are contested.
WWE is working with accounting firm EY (Ernst & Young) to ensure that bout results are scheduled in hopes of convincing regulators that there is no chance of the results being leaked to the public, several sources familiar with the matter said.
WWE executives have reportedly proposed that the results of wrestling matches be set months in advance, and that not even the wrestlers themselves would know the outcome until shortly before the bout takes place.
WWE, the company that organizes professional wrestling matches, is in talks with gambling regulators in Colorado and Michigan to convince them to legalize betting on wrestling matches. But at the same time they have to convince betting companies, such as FanDuel, or DrafKings, not to take risks behind this. There are several protocols to follow before WWE has valuable business.
