(Zaragoza).- It is not an isolated case. Phishing scams are on the rise during the Income Tax campaign while online gambling is on the rise in Aragon.
A young woman from Zaragoza has been sanctioned by the Tax Agency after failing to declare a series of online bets in her Income Tax that, according to her complaint, she did not make. The case puts the spotlight on the risks of identity theft in the rise of digital gambling, especially in the midst of the tax campaign.
According to the information published, the affected person would have been the victim of identity fraud, through which third parties used her personal data to operate on online betting platforms. Despite this, the Treasury imposed a penalty on him for not declaring this income, so now he must prove that it was a fraudulent activity.
Increase in online gambling in Aragon
The context coincides with a significant increase in the consumption of online gambling in Aragon, which also increases tax controls and exposure to cybercrime. In this scenario, the National Police has warned of an uptick in scams linked to the start of the Income Tax campaign.
Cybercriminals often adapt their strategies to key moments, such as the tax reporting period, to give greater credibility to their fraudulent messages. Among the most common techniques are phishing and identity theft, which seek to get users to access malicious links or provide bank details.
The authorities recommend taking extreme precautions, verifying any communication related to the Income Tax and not sharing sensitive information without confirming the source. This case shows how victims of digital fraud can face financial penalties if they fail to prove identity theft.
