Spain publishes plan to reopen lotteries

(Spain).- Following the transition plan launched by President Pedro Sánchez, the Spanish lottery and betting regulator (SELAE) has published its plans to restart lottery services.
SELAE came up with two possible scenarios for its lottery network in the country, although both are subject to the measures established by the government to safeguard the public health during the pandemic.
The first possible scenario is dependent on certain territories reopening their activities on 16 May, in which case Spain would reactivate the sale of all lottery tickets on 18 May. The draws for La Primitiva and Euromillones would take place in the week of 18-24 May, while those for Bonoloto and Gordo de la Primitiva, in the week from 25-31 May.
SELAE’s other option would happen if territories continue in phase 1 of the government’s plans. In this case, the opening would happen on 21 May, with the exception of Euromillones, which would return on 23 May. The draws for all active games would start on 25 May.
In addition, SELAE established that in both scenarios, the National Lottery will resume its draws on the first day that active games restart, and activity will continue on 11 June.
Last week, the authority said that the priority is to set “all the necessary precautions to make commercial activity and the safety of the citizens compatible.”
These precautions include a minimum distance between the public and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as both hygiene and cleaning measures continue to be a main defence against the spread of the virus.
