Alberta’s iGaming revenue growth

According to the report, which covers July 13 to Sept. 30, Alberta’s regulated iGaming market generated approximately $2.81 billion in wagers and about $122.1 million in gross gaming revenue (GGR).

The market expanded to 24 operators and over 30 platforms

The market launched with 15 operators running 22 online casino or sports betting sites, expanding to 24 operators and more than 30 platforms by the end of September. Betting includes traditional sports, esports, and novelty betting products with options such as single-event wagers, live-action betting, pools and parlays.

Active player accounts also increased from 226,959 to 388,585 during the reporting period, generating an average of $146 in revenue per player.

“Early results indicate that Albertans value the strong oversight and greater accountability offered by a regulated market,” AiGC CEO Dan Keene said. “We hope to continue educating Albertans about the risks associated with illegal offshore sites and move them onto regulated platforms where they have rights and recourse when iGaming.”

Keene continued, “Regulation matters. This is a market where approved iGaming operators are held to high standards of accountability, and where revenue stays in the province to fund programs and services Albertans rely upon.”

Alberta is the second province in Canada to allow private online gambling companies following Ontario, which launched its regulated iGaming market back in 2022. Like Ontario, online casino games are proving to be the most popular form of online gambling in Alberta.
