Macau online gaming still under study: Chief Executive

(Macau).- Macau SAR Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng says the government is “still studying” online gaming as a potential means of diversifying the city’s gaming offerings. However, he remained largely non-committal when questioned about the topic by Inside Asian Gaming during a press conference following his maiden policy address on Monday.
“The previous mid-term review about the gaming industry had already mentioned online gaming, we are still studying about it,” he said.
In the mid-term review released in 2016, online gaming activities are primarily classified as illicit operations used by junket operators, such as “using Internet or telephone to remote control gambling, which allows gamblers to participate in gaming by passing the supervision of Macau’s regulations.”
Macao Polytechnic Institute Professor, Dr Zhonglu Zeng, told IAG earlier this week that Macau should look into the feasibility of online gaming with a view to issuing licenses for some small online operations as well as social gaming.
