(Arizona).-This is a short guide to explain what it means to talk about Arizona sports betting revenue and sportsbook handle that the state reports each month.

A guide to Arizona Sports Betting Handle And Revenue

There is an active market with many online or mobile operators as well as a growing number of retail sports wagering options at brick-and-mortar casinos in the Grand Canyon State.

The handle is the total amount of money bet on sports in the state each month. Sports bettors wager hundreds of millions of dollars monthly often through the use of Arizona sportsbook promos. From the time legal sports betting launched in September 2021 to early 2023, legal, regulated sports bets were placed exclusively with online sportsbooks. Since then, physical casinos have begun taking retail wagers on sports, albeit in much smaller numbers.

The Arizona online gambling revenue on sports refers to the amount that operators have left after they pay out winning bets. From there, bookmakers pay 10% tax to the state on the adjusted gross revenue.

Arizona Sports Betting Handle and Revenue: April 2024

The doldrums of spring bit Arizona sportsbooks hard in April, with a 13.6% drop in wagering handle offset slightly by a 14.1% increase in gaming revenues compared to the month of March. Overall, Arizona sportsbooks took in a total wagering handle of $656,322,665.79 in April, down 13.6% from March’s total of $759,807,633.26, which also represented the highest total in state history.

On the revenue side of things, Arizona sportsbooks finished up slightly from the month prior, finishing with $43,352,636.67 in adjusted gross wagering receipts in April, which was up 14.1% from March’s sum of $38,003,553.73.

That jump in wagering revenues directly correlated with an increase in taxes, going from $3,784,200.44 in March to $4,328,378 in April, which represents a 14.4% jump month-over-month.

As far as individual operators were concerned, FanDuel Sportsbook was once again the top dog in Arizona, with a total handle of $230,316,055.84 to finish atop the state’s handle leaderboard for a sixth straight month.

Trailing the New York sports betting goliath was DraftKings Sportsbook, which finished April with a total handle of $209,802,967.13, while BetMGM ($76,406,653.88), Caesars Sportsbook ($39,086,231.87) and Bet365 ($30,186,758.09) were the next closest operators.

The lone newcomer in the state market (Fanatics Gaming) finished its first month in the Grand Canyon State with the seventh-largest handle. Fanatics had $15,665,266.40 to wind up behind ESPN BET in Arizona during April.
