(Las Vegas).- The United States announced an impending easing of the country’s international nonessential travel restrictions on Oct. 13, although no firm date for the updated regulations was initially announced. In the early hours of Friday, Oct. 15, White House assistant press secretary Kevin Munoz revealed that the changes are set to begin in less than a month.
“The US’ new travel policy that requires vaccination for foreign national travelers to the United States will begin on Nov 8,” said Munoz in a social media post. “This announcement and date applies to both international air travel and land travel. This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent.”
The timing of the shift in travel policy had poker fans wondering if foreign players who might have not been able to make the trip to Las Vegas for the 2021 World Series of Poker might be able to make it to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in time to enter this year’s $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event, which was set to run feature four starting flights Nov. 4-7, with the tournament concluding on Nov. 17.
Late on Friday evening, the WSOP officially announced the addition of two new starting flights in response to the international travel changes.
The two new starting flights, Day 1E and Day 1F, take place on Nov. 8 and 9. The new flights will result in some changes to the main event’s schedule. Day 2ABD for players who made it through flights 1A, 1B, and 1D will take place on Nov. 9 alongside Day 1F, while Day 2CEF will take place on Nov. 10.
The addition of these two new starting flights is expected to impact not just the main event itself, but also other events going on in the final weeks of the series. The WSOP Twitter account began announcing changes not long after the changes to the main event were revealed. Keep an eye out for further shifts in the coming days.
