(Espelkamp/Palma de Mallorca). – Merkur Slots Spain has successfully completed the acquisition of 11 arcades previously operated by Spanish operator Operjoku S.L.U. in the Basque Country.
In addition, the Palma de Mallorca-based subsidiary of Merkur Group will take over the operation of gaming machines in 108 bars previously managed by Operkale S.L.U., a specialist in bar-based gaming solutions in northern Spain. The acquisition, carried out in collaboration with Spanish distributor Merkur Dosniha, represents a key milestone in the company’s growth strategy, marking Merkur’s first entry into Spain’s profitable hospitality gaming segment.
This expansion reinforces the international growth trajectory of the East Westphalian corporate group. Meik Sellenriek, Management Board Member of Merkur Operations at Merkur.com AG, highlighted the strategic importance: “Spain is a market with significant long-term potential for Merkur Group. This acquisition demonstrates our commitment to the region. We are proud to welcome around 50 new employees and are confident in further strengthening our market position.”

Dominik Raasch, Management Board Member of Merkur Games at Merkur.com AG, emphasized the operational synergies driving growth: “The integration of Operjoku and Operkale clearly shows how Merkur Group leverages its business divisions to accelerate sustainable growth. We are excited to introduce our innovative gaming machines and games in our own arcades and bars in the Basque Country, one of Spain’s most economically dynamic regions.”
With over 15,000 employees worldwide and 28 venues across Spain, Merkur Group continues to expand its land-based presence. In addition to the newly acquired locations in the Basque Country, Merkur Slots Spain operates venues in Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, and the provinces of Navarre and Cantabria. This strategic expansion strengthens Merkur’s position in one of Europe’s most important gaming markets.
