(San Pablo).- The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) from Brazil requested to different soccer clubs, federations and Globo TV to present them their advertising and their betting service sponsors.

Brazil starts investigation over sports bettings

The notification was sent Tuesday 30th to 54 organizations who have 10 days to respond. The clubs that were notified belongs to the First and Second Soccer Division.

Rodrigo Roca, secretary of the National Secretary of Consumers (Senacon/MJSP) pretends to investigate which are the companies that formalized the contracts with the clubs, taking in account that most of them have their headquarters out of Brazil.

The Fixed Odd Betting, also known as sports betting, created by the Federal Law 13.756/18, are a lottery mode where the gambler can estimate the results of the soccer games, scoreboards, lottery tickets, among others. Whenever the bet is successful, the consumer already knows, through a multiplier (AQFs) the value bet.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the Fixed Odd Betting have not been yet regulated within the Brazilian legislation and therefore, Senacom believe this activity as a criminal contravention.

In case they do not keep with the determination, the companies may respond to an administrative process.

The problem pointed out the recent boom of the gambling sites, which in a few years took over the sport market of the most popular sport in the country.

According to surveys of H2 Gambling Capital, this market must go from 12 to 15 billons of Reales in Brazil until the end of 2022.

Sports legislation was created by the adopted law 13.756 enacted in 2018 by the ex-president Michel Temer, for a period of 2 years, renewable for more than two, so that the activity be regulated in the country, before 12th of December.

Sports bets decree were ready to be signed by the president Jair Bolsonaro, but it was storage after the federal deputy Marco Feliciano (PL-SP), convinced him that the sanction might affect the electoral purposes among the evangelists.
