(Brazil).- Sportsbooks regulation in Brazil is about to be completed, according to the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Waldir Eustáquio Marques Júnior.

Brazil would complete sportsbooks regulation in March

In an interview granted to Valor Econômico, he pointed that Brazil would announce the definitive regulation on sports betting next March. It seems that the activity will be regulated in the country on the first semester 2020.

The landscape of sports betting in Brazil began to change in December 2018. At that time, then President Michel Temer sanctioned the law that created bets with fixed odds in the country, the mode of sports betting in which the player already knows how much he will have to return when betting on a particular event. Several clubs in Brazil are already sponsored by bookmakers.

Only one regulation remains so that the activity is carried out legally on Brazilian soil. Last year was symptomatic for the Brazilian soccer sponsorship market. With the law that created bets with fixed odds, several betting sites have partnered with clubs in the country.

Most of the teams on the A Series in the Brazilian Championship are sponsored by several sportsbooks houses, such as Flamengo (Sportsbet.io), Vasco (NetBet), Corinthians (MarjoSports) and Sao Paulo (Betsul). This trend has been present in the European football, specially in England, attracting a great number of sportsbooks companies.

In an interview granted to Valor Econômico, Waldir Eustáquio Marques Júnior declared that sportsbooks companies in several countries, including England, Italy, Portughal and the US, are interested in exploring the Brazilian market, but they are expecting the regulation of the activity. One of the main aims of the regulation is to guarantee legal security to the main international companies in order to invest in Brazil.
