(London).- Lucas Paquetá, one of the best midfielders of the Premier League, who stood in the eye of the storm a few weeks ago was accused by the English Football Association (FA) of having committed offenses during four matches and influencing with the aim that more people benefit from sports matches.
The Brazilian, who will be part of the selection of his country that will compete in the Copa América in the United States, published a discharge on his social networks after receiving the accusation.“I’ll ignore my positions in its entirety and I’ll do everything to clear my name”, wrote the former Flamengo player and that he landed in the top category of English football in 2022 after his stint at Olympique Lyon.
In the last few hours, information from the periodical The Sun generated a revolution in the environment. According to the British media sports section, the FA issued a recommendation that Paqueta be suspended “for life” to play in England if he is found guilty of the charges against him.
In this sense, the diary details what was known for the first time about the burden of someone who had been a Brazilian protagonist, who was in the spotlight for receiving a yellow card for the value of only seven pounds. Paquetá is accused of having sought to be deliberately assembled in four Premier League matches: against Leicester in 2022 and in West Ham matches against Aston Villa, Leeds United and Bournemouth, all in 2023, with the aim of earning money for your friends.
In the investigation into which you have access to the periodical, it is believed that some sixty people bet that Paqueta was going to see a yellow card in some of these encounters in the English league, in a game that involved a disbursement of money that went from there mentioned 7 to 400 pounds. In this way, they have generated profits of around 100 thousand pounds.
The particular one, according to the source that accessed The Sun, is that the first betting company that raised the alarm about this suspicious issue was the company Betway, the main sponsor of t-shirts of the Hammers in the competition.
Furthermore, it was clarified that the statements “in favor” of Paquetá had been produced in a place opposite the coast of Río de Janeiro. This complicated legal scenario for the Brazilian is a major obstacle to taking a step forward in his sporting career, as rumors place him as one of the priorities for Pep Guardiola in the face of renewing the Manchester City squad in the next campaign.
The case against the midfielder who also played in Milan, Italy, began in the European summer of last year when the betting companies activated an integrity alert for extraños paid in the place where Paquetá came from. In addition to that, the newspaper The Sun revealed that the Brazilian fancied in playing the duel that I started and the analysis of the FA's points collection (West Ham's first match against Bournemouth).
It is possible that the hearing of the case will last for several months, given the impact that the 26-year-old football player was one of the protagonists. “I'm very surprised and upset to see that the FA has decided to impute me. During new months he cooperated and at every step of the investigation and provided all the information he could, which is what Paquetá said when his name was exposed in the scandal of allegations.
For his part, the statement from the FA against the West Ham midfielder was exposed by the data provided by the parties in which he was supposedly implicated in the series of bets. “Lucas Paqueta has been accused of bad conduct in relation to alleged infractions of the E5 and F3 rules of the FA. The player has been accused of four infractions of FA Rule E5.1 in relation to his conduct in the club's Premier League parties against Leicester City on November 12, 2022; Aston Villa on March 12, 2023; Leeds United on May 21, 2023; y AFC Bournemouth on August 12, 2023″.
“It is alleged that he sought directly to influence the progress, the conduct or any other aspect or the occurrence of these parties by intentionally seeking to receive a card from the arbitrator with the undue purpose of affecting the betting market so that more people can join together to obtain the benefit of the bets. Lucas Paqueta has also been accused of two infractions of the FA's F3 Rule in relation to failures to comply with the FA's F2 Rule. The FA will not have any further comments until the conclusion of this case”, added the report presented by the English federation.
The South American player is not the first football player to be investigated by the organizers of the Premier League: in 2023, Brentford star Ivan Toney was sentenced to eight months without playing and an economic fine of more than 60 thousand dollars after being charged. For his part, the Italian Sandro Tonali (Newcastle) was warned of violating some 50 points of the federation's rules and has not played in official parties since October 2023.
