(Las Vegas).- Gamblers in Atlantic City now have four casinos where they could place wagers on sports.
A few months after the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed New Jersey, and more states, to legalize sports betting, Harrah's Resort Atlantic City and Bally's Atlantic City Hotel & Casino – both operated by owned by Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corp. – are now among the A.C. properties with a sportsbook, according to an Associated Press report.
Harrah's took its first sports bet on Wednesday; Bally's first happened Monday.
The newest gambling option in the Garden State was already available at Ocean Resort, the former Revel, and the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, where Julius "Dr. J." Erving made the first bet in mid-June. The NBA legend's appearance seems even more suitable for the Borgata, following parent company MGM Resorts International's announcement earlier this week that it is entering into a partnership with the professional basketball league to obtain official data from the NBA and WNBA.
Dr.J's wager followed the first-ever sports bet in the Garden State – Gov. Phil Murphy reportedly put $20 on the New Jersey Devils to win the Stanley Cup and another $20 on the 2018 FIFA World Cup at Monmouth Park in North Jersey.
Other Atlantic City casinos also are working to add sports betting to their properties. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City struck a deal with U.K. online gaming company Bet365, while Caesars and Golden Nugget took steps to ensure their sportsbooks are ready in time for the start of the NFL season.
