Paragliding world champion warns of negative impact on sport by banning online betting platforms
⏱ 2 min read
(Santiago).- Víctor “Bicho” Carrera Silva, two-time world champion of acrobatic paragliding and recognized sports representative of Chile in international competitions expressed his concern, in a letter addressed to the Honorable Sports and Recreation Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies, about the consequences that the new regulation proposal could bring for online sports betting platforms, especially those that do not enjoy extensive financing.
The athlete highlighted the important contribution that for more than 7 years he has received from a renowned online betting platform, as a sponsor, for his development as an international-level athlete. “Despite not having many resources, I never allowed that to dampen my spirit and determination. Years later, when I had already demonstrated my talent and ability, the Latamwin brand, an online betting house, came into my life. Since then, it has been a fundamental pillar in my transformation process as an athlete and in obtaining my world titles,” Carrera explained in the document released yesterday in the Sports and Recreation Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
The athlete stated that, although he understands the role of the government for different regular activities, he is “deeply concerned that the proposed regulation for online betting and gambling companies could negatively affect companies like Latamwin, which in addition to its main function, It has also been invaluable support for athletes like me.”
“It is important to remember that government support for athletes in less traditional disciplines, such as acrobatic paragliding, is not always abundant. In my case, I can state with all sincerity that without the support of Latamwin, I would not have achieved the triumphs that I obtained on behalf of our nation,” Carrera stated in this document. In the letter, Victor Carrera Silva called for reflection, urging to consider all the aspects of this bill: “Beyond betting and games, there are stories of improvement, of effort, of national representation that could be affected. If companies like Latamwin are unable to operate in our country.”
