(St. Gallen).- New features and enhancements bring real-time accuracy, expanded data coverage, and deeper insights for both NCAA and NFL football. These enhancements aim to give users a competitive edge by delivering real-time accuracy, expanded player tracking, and improved fan experiences.
As the 2025 football season begins, a comprehensive update has been rolled out to the Football API, introducing a range of new features and improvements designed to elevate data offerings across both college and professional levels. Key New Features Include:
Live Play Review Alerts:
A new "under review" flag has been added to the play-by-play endpoint, offering real-time updates during game stoppages to improve the viewer experience.
Free Agent Endpoint:
Users now have access to a continuously updated list of unsigned players, ideal for transaction feeds and roster building tools.
Precise Team Sorting:
Player listings now reflect the most recent team affiliation, even for athletes who have played for multiple teams within a season.
Referee Identification:
Each referee is now assigned a unique ID, enabling advanced analysis of officiating patterns and crew performance.
NFL Touchback Rule Update:
The API now automatically adjusts to reflect the new NFL touchback rule, placing the ball at the 30-yard line without manual input.
Expanded NCAA Neutral-Site Records:
Neutral-site games are now included in NCAA team records, providing better context for playoff and bowl evaluations.
Career Tracking Across Leagues:
Players now maintain a unified identifier from NCAA to NFL, simplifying long-term career tracking.
NFL Salary Data Integration:
Base salary data has been added for NFL players, supporting financial analysis and valuation tools.
NCAA Transfer Portal Tracking:
A new endpoint allows for real-time monitoring of player entries and exits from the transfer portal, aiding in roster management.
Live NCAA Game Data Latency:
Expected latency metrics are now provided, helping sync live stats with video feeds and broadcasts.
Fixes & Improvements:
Accurate Historical Team Records:
Standings now reflect win-loss records at the time of each game, improving historical accuracy for archives and simulations.
Enhanced Statistical Engine:
Precision has been improved for key metrics like blocked punts, field goal returns, and punt return yards, ensuring data quality for analytics and visualizations.
All updates are scheduled to be fully live before the 2025 season begins. Support is available for testing and integration to ensure a smooth transition to these new capabilities.
